Book Reviews:Somewhere Inside by Laura Ling

This is another great book that I've previously read. It was required for the Freshmen in my college to read over the summer before school started. Its based on a true story, and actually happened recently like last year or the year before. The book is a memoir and its basically about a journalist named Laura Ling and her colleague Euna Lee who went over to North Korea to investigate a story on North Korean defectors. Soon, they started filming on the Chinese, North Korean border, and were chased down and caught by North Korean soilders. Laura and Euna were imprisoned by Kim Jong II communist state. They were kept apart throughout this ordeal and dealt with harsh interrogation and months and months in captivity. They were the first Americans ever to be sentenced to twelve years of hard labor in North Korea. Once, Laura's sister Lisa heard the news of her sister and Euna's captivity, she began to try everything in her power to get her sister and Euna home safe and sound. Finally, by the hard work of her sister and her government and media connections, and messages sent back and fourth between North Korea and the U.S., Luara and Euna were finally released and back in America. Personally, I thought this book was very interesting and I would recommend it to everyone. This book is a great story of perseverance, hope, politics, and much more. Its good to be well aware and educated about actual events that happen in our world, it is our duty as citizens of the world to learn history so that it doesn't  repeat itself.
