As many people know, today is Valentine's Day. Today is a very special day. A day spent with someone you love or the day you tell the person you've been dying to talk to that you like them, Valentine's day is even more than that. The true meaning of Valentine's day is love and appreciation. Appreciation for those you love and care about. Not that many people know the history of Valentine's day like how it came about. Valentine's day originated back in the A.D. centuries. It is said that it has to do with the Christian and Roman tradition. As the legend goes on to say, the holiday came from the Roman festival of Lupercalis, a fertility celebration that happened on the 15th of February. But by the rise in Christianity in Europe saw many pagan holidays being renamed for and dedicated to early Christian martyrs. In 496 A.D., Pope Gelsius turned Lupercalia into a Christian feast day and set it on the day now known as February 14th. It was a day set to honor St. Valentine, a Roman martyr from the 3rd century. Thus, this is how our Modern Valentine's day came about.
