Is College a Scam or a Blessing?
Sure, we all have heard from our parents and family member's about the importance of going to college, but is college a scam or a blessing? College is a great way to discover yourself and to really figure out what you want to do with your life, career-wise, but is college always a good thing, in retrospect for the students?
A lot of colleges now a days don't realize that they are in fact hurting us college students than helping us, according to http://money.cnn.com/2012/10/18/pf/college/student-loan-debt/ , the average amount of debt college students have, totals about $27,000 and climbing. ( Also check out this debt map of the U.S. that shows the amount of college debts students have around America :http://money.cnn.com/interactive/pf/college/student-debt-map/?iid=EL). Many of the college students who do attend college part-time, or full-time like my self have not enough money to do anything, let alone pay hundreds and hundreds for textbooks each semester, and the outrageous amounts these schools charge for student parking which can be $10 a day.
Don't get me wrong, I am pro-college for everyone, but sometimes I can't help to wonder if they care about me as a student or just the fact that they receive financial-aid for every student that attends their college. A lot of the courses and classes required, are absolutely pointless and just cause a longer graduation date, which means more loans to be taken out and money to be spent. Colleges really need to asses their curriculum's and think, "Are we really benefiting the students?", or "Are we hurting the students?"
I mean we already have a hard time now finding good jobs because of the messed up economy caused by these so called, "Politicians", that now we have a even harder time staying in college and getting into the careers we really want.
Here are some facts about college dropouts: http://politic365.com/2013/01/24/college-dropout-rate-called-national-crisis-in-new-report/46% of college students who enter college fail ro graduate within six years.

- 37% of African-American's graduate in six years as well as 42% of Hispanic's
- Since 2002, the amount of student loan has doubled. It is now reaching $113 billion!
So, what's the end result? Colleges need to make college more affordable and help lower our student debts by giving more financial aid, grants, and scholarships, as well as offering more help in the area of financing school, and etc. And it wouldn't hurt if the Politicians actually started fixing this economy too, so that more of us college students can actually get good jobs to help pay off all this debt we are acquiring.
